If you are wondering "how old do I have to be to attend a training session?" or "why is there an age requirement?"
The Canadian Red Cross has minimum an age requirement for courses due to the nature of content and recommended comprehension level to be successful in the course.
The minimum age to attend a Red Cross Training Course is 11 years old.
While the minimum requirement is 11 years old, we recommend then following. (please note these are simple recommendations and are not strict guidelines)
Between 11-13 years of age: Attend a Babysitter Course which will cover basic first aid techniques.
Between 13-15 years of age: Attend a regular First Aid & CPR Course, however register with a friend so you have someone familiar in the class. There will be partner work when practicing skills, so we find this may help if you child is nervous about attending a 1 or 2 day session.
16 years or older: Will be fine attending any course.
